hello, world!
Hi! If you’re seeing this, it probably means that in the last few months you’ve filled out one of our surveys regarding cosplay where we’ve given you the option to fill in your contact info, such as your E-mail address.
The questions in these surveys were specifically prepared in order to help you guide us in the venture of creating the perfect space for cosplayers - cos.place.
If you’d like to opt out of getting further updates related to our work on cos.place, you can do it by clicking here.
what is cos.place?
Cos.place is our answer to the needs of the global cosplay community. Our mission is to create a safe space for cosplay artists and their fans, one that will support their self-expression and creativity. We want this to be a space created in close collaboration with this wonderful community, so that it can help resolve its most notorious issues in an innovative and friendly way.
We strive to include the following features within cos.place, as well as many others:
- Content feed (pictures, video),
- Ability to share short-form content,
- A marketplace for cosplay-related services and products (both first & second hand),
- Built-in protection against piracy and AI,
- Integrations with ongoing events (cons, LARPs),
- A dedicated system for cosplay groups,
- Ways to support your favorite creators (via donations, subscriptions, premium content),
- Rich and deep profile customization,
- Virtual badges as rewards,
- Convenient tagging,
- An algorithm built to support small creators!
Over the next few weeks we’ll have the honor to dive deeper and present you with each of these - as well as many other - features!
once upon a cosplay...
Over the last few weeks many creators have publicly spoken out against the unwise and harmful addition of Generative Artificial Intelligence to most popular social media platforms (X, Meta).
Users have expressed their concerns with how easy it is to steal or manipulate the content they share. Over on X alone there have been many instances of people’s pictures being edited without their consent in order to present them in suggestive poses or even nude. In some terrible cases those edits impacted even minors.
We show our full support towards those displeased users and want it to be known that cos.place will be a platform completely devoid of AI and we will never use any of the content posted on the site - neither photos nor videos - to train it.
We’ll do our very best to ensure that cos.place blocks any and all attempts at using your data by AI. We’ll achieve this by employing many layers of protective measures, such as applying special filters on all posted content by default. Those filters, although invisible to the human eye, will make it impossible for the AI to use your data in its training.
Those solutions are already available thanks to projects like Nightshade or Glaze, and we’re planning on becoming one of the very first social media platforms to take it upon ourselves to protect our users and the content they post.
At the time of writing this, none of the major social media platforms used by cosplayers - neither TikTok, Instagram, nor X - equip sufficient safeguards against Artificial Intelligence.
We’ll do everything in our power to make your stay with us safe :)
what's next?
We’re making good progress on our project and with time you’ll be able to see more and more of us on social media!
As the earliest of birds you are guaranteed the access to the Beta version of cos.place. We’ll make sure to update you about its status in the following weeks.
People attending the Remcon festival (13-15th February) in Poland will have a chance to come across our visiting cards! They will be handed out by certain vendors, as well as our friends attending the convention. They will redirect new faces to our newsletter and allow them to access the early access version of our site. Make sure to let us know, if you come across one of them!
We wish to have a positive impact on the cosplay community by creating a warm space for all its members and supporting the creators in making a living doing what they love!
Wish us luck!
