Worse than a cataclysm

Are we really, really sure that the world’s made it past 2012? Maybe in body it did, but its creativity was left behind. Just take a look online at how YouTube channels used to look like back in 2011, and then see how they look like now. As the years go by, seemingly every platform has gone through the process of grayscaling, a gradual shift towards limiting their users’ expression to the absolute bare minimum in order to create a singular, uniform display.

Effects of those changes are visible at a first glance. Number of elements that we can use to identify or relate to creators has been reduced to only three, or sometimes even two - an avatar and a description. Even the thumbnails of posts and videos, which - one might think - are supposed to be a helpful tool for creators to show the world their unique perspective, are now just another field of battle with the algorithm.

Sun after the storm

We truly believe that this grayscaling trend can be reversed. Just like way back when the colored press had been overshadowed by black-and-white TV, simply for it in turn to be replaced by colorful broadcasts soon after. We’re certain that if there's a community to be a contributor to this movement - it will be cosplay.

Here’s a couple ways in which we plan help users express their true self:

  • Extensive profiles with many editable elements:
    • Avatar
    • Frame
    • Banner
    • Backdrop
    • Username
    • Header
    • Description
    • Links
    • Additional info sections
  • Ability to edit profile directly with HTML
  • Badges earned by completing achievements
  • A virtual Ita-bag
  • Option to check in on ongoing and future events
  • Rewarding followers with rewards unique to your profile, such as custom profile decorations, badges, and emotes
  • Extensive post creation options, including the ability to create custom photo and video layouts

Everything is still very much work-in-progress, thus the list will be evolving with time! If you believe that there’s anything else we can do to support creators in expressing themselves, please let us know!
